Kevin will lead us out to the base of Mount Susitna (“Sleeping Lady”, the tall mountain range across Cook Inlet you can see from Anchorage) on March 17th, Saturday for a super-fun intermediate skill ride to romp in the powder at the swamps at the base of the mountain.  We’ll be looking for enough snow to make our way  to the summit for an unforgettable view— but there’s PLENTY of good snow below and it’s always an enormous playground anyway.  Allow 2.25 hours minimum driving time from Anchorage in dry road conditions because there are residential areas behind Willow to Deshka Landing, slower speed limits and MOOSE in the road.  We’ll meet at 9am at Deshka Landing (come earlier and join us for breakfast at EagleQuest Lodge just outside the Deshka gate) , be prepared to pay $10 parking fee –credit cards accepted at an automated terminal upon exiting— and be ready to roll at 10am after a riders’ safety meeting just before.  Bring a sack lunch, something to drink, camera and EXTRA GAS–you’ll probably need it playing out in the loose stuff !  We’ll be covering 75 to 100 miles out to trail #6 on the Susitna River and into some pretty amazing scenery among endless swamps of typically fluffy snow, back to the cars around 5pm.

Please RSVP ride leader Kevin Hite if you’re planning on going to this ride either by texting his cell 907-529-0106 or sending an email to

Please check the hotline 689-7777 just before leaving for ANY ride !

[to get to Deshka Landing:  heading north—go through the entire town of Willow on the Parks Highway North. The Willow airport will be on the right of the highway at Milepost 70 and just 1/2 mile past that there will be a large green sign that says “Willow Creek Parkway”/”Deshka Landing” pointing to the left/west.  Head west on Willow Creek Parkway (WATCH OUR FOR MOOSE from here to Deska Landing!!!) a couple miles until it dead-ends (no winter maintenance beyond) where there is only a left turn onto “Crystal Lake Road”.  Go approximately 2.5 or 3 miles on Crystal Lake Road and there will be a sign “Deshka Landing” pointing to a RIGHT TURN onto “Mishap Avenue” now heading west again.  Stay on that–it snakes around neighborhoods but will eventually dead-end into Deshka Landing complex.  Deshka Landing business office opens at 9am but you can park before that because entry is an automatic gate when you dispense your parking voucher–don’t loose it!

Eagle Quest Lodge & Cabins serves a delicious home-cooked and friendly breakfast just outside the entrance gate to Deshka Landing.
